Sliding vs hinged doors
Sliding doors save floor space in tight rooms and give large uninterrupted front elevations; hinged doors offer 100% internal access and a wider range of finishes. Both are viable, layout dictates the right answer.

Service overview
What it is
Made-to-measure bedroom furniture: wardrobes, sliding-door systems, dressing areas, over-bed units, bedside runs and window-wall storage, designed to your exact room dimensions, ceiling height and skirting profile.
Who it's for
Homeowners across Newcastle, the North East, Surrey and Brighton who need more usable storage without extending, plus buy-to-let landlords maximising rentable bedrooms and parents future-proofing children's rooms.
When you need it
When freestanding wardrobes waste 15–25% of a bedroom in dead space, when awkward alcoves and sloping ceilings are unusable, or when you're refitting a bedroom as part of a wider refurbishment.
Why use a specialist
Off-the-shelf furniture is built to standard dimensions; your bedroom isn't. Bespoke fitted joinery uses every millimetre floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall, which is why a fitted wardrobe typically gives 30–50% more usable hanging and shelving than the same footprint of freestanding units.
The cost of getting it wrong
Wasted space compounds. Every cubic foot of dead ceiling above a freestanding wardrobe, every gap down the side, every awkward alcove, that's storage you're paying mortgage on but not using. The alternative is usually a loft conversion or an extension at 20–50x the cost.
Our process
We measure the room properly, including wall bow, ceiling slope and skirting profile, and discuss what you actually store and how you dress in the morning.
Full visuals of doors, handles, internal fit-out and lighting on R-D CAD. You see it before you buy it, including how it sits with the rest of your bedroom.
One quote covering cabinetry, internal fit-out, sliding-door systems, LED lighting, mirrors and installation. Valid for three months.
Our own joiners install, usually 1–3 days on site for a single wardrobe run, longer for full room fit-outs. Dust is contained, floors are protected.
Doors adjusted, drawers balanced, lighting tested, snag list closed. One-year workmanship guarantee.
Why it's worth doing properly
Floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall storage typically gives 30–50% more usable capacity than the same footprint of freestanding wardrobes.
Commercial-grade sliding-door tracks and rollers rated for tens of thousands of cycles, not the flat-pack kits that fail in year two.
Hanging, shelving, drawers, shoe racks and trouser rails specified to what you actually own, not a generic ratio a catalogue picked for you.
Every unit is scribed on site to your exact wall and skirting profile, no visible gaps, no filler line running down the side of the wardrobe.
Most fitted wardrobe runs are installed and finished in 1–3 days, with minimal disruption to the rest of the house.
LED lighting installed with a fused isolator by our NICEIC-approved electrician, safe, dimmable, and correctly rated for enclosed furniture.
The detail
We design fitted bedrooms across every configuration, from a single alcove wardrobe to a full dressing-room fit-out. Below is a summary of the choices and technical detail we walk through at design stage.
Sliding doors save floor space in tight rooms and give large uninterrupted front elevations; hinged doors offer 100% internal access and a wider range of finishes. Both are viable, layout dictates the right answer.
Soft-close drawers, pull-out shoe racks, trouser rails, tie/belt racks, pull-down hanging rails, jewellery inserts, and integrated LED. We size these to what you actually own, bring a rough count to your survey.
Painted MDF (any RAL or Farrow & Ball), foil-wrapped, real wood veneer, matt lacquer, mirror, tinted glass, and reeded/fluted panels. Handles or handleless, we can match kitchen cabinetry if the bedroom is part of a wider refit.
Loft bedrooms, sloping eaves and non-square rooms are our bread and butter. Every unit is templated on site, no off-the-shelf carcass forced to fit.
Bridging units above beds and full window-wall storage runs double usable capacity in smaller rooms without dominating the space visually.
Robust MFC carcasses, drawer runners rated for daily abuse, and easy-clean finishes. For rental refits, we spec to durability first, priced to make sense on a per-room yield basis.
